Research Writer

Research Writer is available with Google sign-in and an active Avera Pro subscription. Open it from the ribbon (/writer).

Manuscript list

The left sidebar lists your manuscripts.

New manuscripts from the default template include IMRaD sections: Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and References with an auto-generated bibliography block.

Editor

• Edit the title block at the top; changes autosave.
• Use the toolbar for bold, italic, headings (Normal, H2, H3), lists, blockquote, and inline code.
• Watch the save indicator: Saving… then Saved after a short debounce.
• Section outline on the side shows structure and word counts per section.
• Section menu can move sections up/down; the References section stays locked in place.

Tables and figures

• Insert → Table — pick dimensions; use the context toolbar to add/remove rows and columns, set header rows, or delete the table.
• Table presets — APA style applies when your citation style is APA.
• Edit captions and table notes; numbering updates automatically.
• Insert → Figure from library attachments, paste from clipboard, or drag image files (.png, .jpg).
• Adjust figure width and alt text from the figure toolbar.

Cross-references

Insert cross-references to figures, tables, and sections; numbers update when content moves.

Link a systematic review

Link a manuscript to a review project to:

• Insert methods boilerplate from review metadata and search dates
• Insert an included studies table from full-text Include decisions
• Insert a live PRISMA diagram block (refresh when screening counts change)

Modes and help

• Content-focus and appearance themes reduce distraction while drafting.
• Open the keyboard shortcuts panel from Writer for writer-specific keys.

Cloud sync

Manuscripts autosave locally. Signed-in Pro users sync to the cloud; edits appear on other sessions after sync.
