Citations and export

Insert citations, citation styles, bibliography, DOCX, LaTeX, and print preview.

Insert citations

  1. Place the cursor in the body text.
  2. Insert → Citation (or the citation picker in the sidebar).
  3. Search your library and select one or more papers.
  4. Confirm insert.

A citation chip appears in the text; the References section bibliography updates.

Citation details

Open a citation to edit locators, prefix/suffix, and narrative vs parenthetical form. Group multiple sources in one citation cluster.

Citation styles

Change style from the manuscript settings or toolbar:

  • APA 7
  • Vancouver
  • Chicago author-date
  • Harvard

In-text citations and the bibliography reformat live when you switch styles.

Guidance

Writer may show citation lint hints for style compliance. Run validation before export when using the CLI (avera manuscripts validate).

Bibliography

The References section contains a bibliography block listing every cited work in the active style order. Do not delete the bibliography block; it is maintained from your citations.

Export

From the Writer UI or via CLI:

FormatContents
Word (DOCX)Body, citations, tables, figures, bibliography
LaTeX.tex plus references.bib and figures folder

Export may require external tools for some paths; errors should explain missing dependencies (for example Pandoc).

Use print layout preview to check page size, margins, double-spacing, and estimated page count before submitting.

CLI workflows

For scripting: avera manuscripts cite, manuscripts export, manuscripts generate-methods, manuscripts insert-prisma, and related commands. See CLI.
