Notebook
File-backed notes
Import PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as read-only notebook tabs.
Supported formats
From the Notebook toolbar Import file, or by dragging a file onto the notebook view:
| Format | Viewer |
|---|---|
| Built-in PDF.js viewer (read-only) | |
| DOCX | Paginated read-only document |
| XLSX | Sheet tabs, read-only cells |
| PPTX | Slide viewer; may fall back to PDF preview |
A drop overlay appears while dragging. On success, a new note appears in the grid and opens in a tab.
Behavior
- Titles default to the filename (without extension).
- The grid Type column shows PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, or Note.
- These are not the same as Markdown notes — no slash commands or wikilinks in file viewers.
- Toolbar may offer Open in app when the file path is available on disk.
DOCX and zoom
Scroll the document; use toolbar zoom in, zoom out, and reset.
XLSX sheets
Switch sheets with the bottom tab bar. Cells are not editable in the viewer.
PPTX fallback
If the slide renderer fails, Avera may show a PDF fallback banner and display a cached PDF instead, with navigation controls when available.
vs library PDFs
Import research PDFs into the library when you want citations, metadata, and annotations. Use notebook file import for general documents you want beside your Markdown notes.
