Screening workflow

Abstract and full-text decisions, notes, conflicts, and keyboard shortcuts.

Abstract screening

  1. Open the review and go to the Abstract tab.
  2. The queue shows paper N of total with title, authors, abstract, and source link.
  3. If abstract text is missing, use Fetch abstract from DOI metadata.
  4. Read inclusion and exclusion criteria shown on the card.

Decisions

Exclude prompts for an exclusion reason tied to your criteria. Optional notes save with the decision and appear in the screening notes sidebar.

After each decision, the queue advances to the next unscreened paper for your assignment.

Full-text screening

  1. Open the Fulltext tab after abstract includes exist.
  2. Screen with the same decision panel.
  3. Open the in-app PDF when attached; fetch open-access PDFs when available.
  4. Mark not retrieved when full text cannot be obtained (for PRISMA reporting).

Decisions at full-text are stored separately from abstract decisions.

Screening notes sidebar

During screening, open the notes sidebar to:

  • Read team notes for the current paper
  • Add a new screening note visible to the team

Linked notebook notes may surface here when configured.

Conflicts (dual screening)

When two reviewers disagree:

  1. Open the Conflicts tab.
  2. Review each reviewer’s decision.
  3. Resolve as Include, Exclude, or Maybe.

The arbitrator (if set in Settings) can resolve conflicts. Resolved papers leave the conflict queue.

Progress

The Progress tab shows PRISMA-style count cards, per-reviewer completion, and exclusion reason breakdowns. Numbers update as decisions are saved.

Calibration

Run a calibration pilot on a shared paper set before opening the full queue (systematic review module).

Assignment board

Reassign papers between reviewers from the assignment UI when workloads need balancing.

Writer and synthesis

Papers with full-text Include feed included-studies tables and methods text in Research Writer when the manuscript is linked to the review.
