Highlights, comments, persistence, and sync.
Create highlights
- Open the paper’s PDF tab.
- Select the highlight tool.
- Drag over text on a page.
Highlights appear on the page immediately.
Comments and notes on the PDF
Use the annotation tools to add comments or sticky notes on a page. Click an existing mark to edit or remove it.
Persistence
Annotations save automatically:
- Switching tabs and returning keeps marks.
- Closing and reopening the PDF tab keeps marks.
- Quitting and relaunching Avera keeps marks for that paper.
You do not need a separate Save action before closing the tab.
Sync (Pro)
With an active subscription, PDF highlights and markup can sync across devices when you are signed in. If the attached PDF file changes (different file hash), old marks may be hidden to avoid misaligned annotations.
What annotations are not
File-backed PDF notes in the Notebook are read-only viewers without this annotation layer. Use library PDF tabs for markup tied to references.
